About the Church

Anchuthengu is a peaceful fishing hamlet that wakes up to the sounds of the waves of the sea and sweet singing of the early morning birds of the surrounding lake. Anchuthengu has found its important niche in the pages of the world history for its glorious past. It’s a beautiful thin strip of land caressed by the rich Arabian Sea on one side and the silent Anchuthengu Lake on the other.The St. Peter’s Church stands as the most colourful feather on the beautiful strip of land of Anchuthengu village. It was the 15th century Portuguese Missionaries who landed at the sea shore who began the active building of this lively Christian Community here. By the beginning of the 16th century, the first church was built.
